My communication is to the orchestra first. They communicate the music to the audience.
But audiences want to see you.
Some halls are built such that the audience sits around the orchestra. That makes me uncomfortable because I'm busy working and they're peering at me.

It's a completely unique relationship. A conductor is in constant interaction with his musicians.

No, never. That's why it is so unique.

It never is because you are creating your music anew each time.
