It does not pay to be a moderate in the bjp, unless you are Atal Behari Vajpayee. The president of the Kerala state unit of the party, C.K. Padmanabhan, is likely to be sacked for being critical of the RSS. Padmanabhan, a moderate face of the BJP, came in for much criticism for having said in a press interview that the Sangh was becoming a burden for the bjp. According to senior BJP leader O. Rajagopal, the state unit would meet in March to decide on what action should be taken against Padmanabhan.
What the state president was stating is the view of one faction of the BJP in Kerala which believes that the rss and its affiliate organisations were bringing a bad name to the party through their intemperate statements.
The charge against the state chief was led by Padmanabhacharya, who is on the national executive and is in charge of Kerala. Padmanabhan’s only hope is if Rajagopal, a minister in the Vajpayee cabinet, comes to his rescue.
