Anand Mahindra, M&M CEO, is a satisfied man. The tractor business has thrived despite depressed rural markets. Scorpio has witnessed unexpected growth, and the global thrust has shown results. In an exclusive interview, he reveals how he did it. Excerpts:
Does the failed Valtra bid affect your plans?
Whenever there is an opportunity, it is opportunistic. So, it is not a part of strategy. We plan to grow organically and inorganically. But we will bid rationally, not to prove anything to the world.
How do you plan to grow to compete in the global market?
We'll have two more facilities in the US. Now we are looking at Europe, Turkey, Egypt and Brazil.
Are you satisfied with m&m's performance so far?
Now that we have had good monsoons and the economy is also recovering, we'll gain. Studies show that such benefits accrue eight months to a year later. So the best is yet to come.
