"Truth Triumphs"

I believe in moving from action to action," says M.K. Bezbaruah, reclining comfortably in his swivel chair, hours after joining back as director in the gloomy enforcement directorate office. For the 54-year-old IAS officer of the AGMUT (Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Mizoram and Union Territories) cadre, the one-liner sums up his career profile.

Bezbaruah is remembered by former colleagues—particularly those who worked with him in his earlier stints with the Delhi government—not just as a file-pushing bureaucrat but as one who set targets for each assignment. And given the fact that the publicity-shy bureaucrat has not taken a day's leave in the past five years, not even to visit his home in Jorhat, the description fits.

But Bezbaruah shies from taking credit for any of his achievements: whether it involved pursuing irrigation projects in his stint as sub-divisional magistrate in Assam's Cachar district or heading the Super Bazar in Delhi or even nabbing influ-ential FERA violators as enforcement director.
