As author, academic and diplomat, Strobe Talbott is a respected name in various parts of the world. In India he shot to prominence when as US deputy secretary of state he was engaged in important negotiations with the Indian leadership in the wake of the 1998 Pokhran-II nuclear tests and the US sanctions thereafter. He has been to India on a number of occasions since and is regarded as one of the main proponents of strong Indo-US relations. Currently the president of the Was­h­ington-based Brookings Insti­tution, he spoke to Pranay Sharma on Obama’s impending visit and future of relations between the two countries.
