Arch-rival and former chief minister Keshubhai Patel appears to have become the sounding board for dissident legislators baying for Narendra Modi's blood. He spoke to Outlook after returning from a meeting with the BJP's central leadership in Delhi. Excerpts from the interview:
After the BJP's poor showing you said that once Gujarat used to show direction to the entire country but now it had lost direction. What did you mean?
What I meant was that Gujarat was the BJP's model state in all spheres and this is the reason the Congress was getting decimated here. People from all walks of life had reposed enormous faith in the BJP, but this result shows there is an erosion of this faith. This is why I feel Gujarat has lost direction.
Who do you blame for the poor showing?
I am not into the blame game. And putting the blame on someone is no solution. The farmers were angry over the issue of power tariff and the agitation by Bharatiya Kisan Sangh (a Sangh parivar offshoot) failed to bring relief. This is the chief reason.
