Even as Gujarat burns, Hassan Haji of Vaniyanannoor, in Kerala’s Malappuram district, has created history by handing over a temple and the surrounding land, which were in his possession, to the Hindus. Haji had an old temple sans idols on his compound. His father had bought the land and had not demolished the temple. Instead, he had asked his son before his death to hand over the temple and the adjacent land to the Hindus if they ever demanded it. Haji fulfilled his father’s wishes. Renovations are now on.
