The Moor's Sigh

The Moor's Sigh
Call it a miracle if you will but Alterites, a nine-man experimental band, did awaken some seriously slumbering elements in the capital last week with their music, that ranged from the mellifluous strains of Taga Ram Bheel’s double-flute, algoja, to the African Kora, the robust vocals of Spaniard Manuel Aguilar and the vein-bulgingly intense desert ragas of Jalal Khan. The Indo-French band brought together an ensemble of wind, string and percussion instruments. And to think their soulful stuff was conceived, composed and inaugurated at Mallika Sarabhai’s Darpana Academy in Ahmedabad, amid much fury and bloodshed. Their music thankfully was happy and elevating.
