Many terror links have been unearthed in the state. But the anti-terrorist squad has to smarten up.

The perception now is that Bangalore has become a breeding ground for terrorist groups. Is it true? The police find this a tricky question to answer. They say some international terror groups have been found to have links here, but to say outfits like Al Qaeda have a network is a little "presumptuous" and "alarmist". There is no evidence of an "organised presence" of Al Qaeda here.

However, M.K. Nagaraja, IGP, Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS), says a close interaction is being planned between the police and educational institutions in the state. "We want to sound an alert on admissions happening in Bangalore's professional colleges. It is important to check the antecedents of students being admitted. We want to be allowed to search rooms of suspected students. We have anyway begun the documentation process," he says. According to him, the Israeli government had alerted India about admission of foreign students to professional institutions some time back. But...
