Is the Dalai Lama going to visit Tibet, 47 years after he fled the country in 1959? This rumour led to thousands of Tibetans collecting at Kumbum monastery in Tibet for the spiritual leader’s visit. Meanwhile, the Tibetan government in exile here has expressed consternation about the hearsay. They say the Chinese government is trying to gauge the impact of a Dalai Lama visit to Tibet. In March, the Dalai Lama had publicly expressed his desire to visit Tibet and see the changes. There was also a formal request to Beijing but there’s been no response.
