Attacks on voices of moderation within the separatist movement, it seems, is not going to cease soon. Just a few days after the assassination of Hurriyat leader Abdul Ghani Lone, suspected militants have hit back again. Three unidentified gunmen fired at Zafar Iqbal, a reporter of the daily Kashmir Images. Iqbal is battling for his life at a Srinagar hospital.

The attack took place on May 29 afternoon. The three gunmen entered the newspaper’s office and after they failed to persuade Iqbal to sign a piece of paper, one of them pulled out a pistol and shot at him. Iqbal is battling for his life at the Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences. Editor Bashir Manzar was saved because he wasn’t in office. Images is known to support the position of leaders
