I visited New Zealand during the shooting of the film Grahan, and since then I've been absolutely besotted with the country. On my first visit there, we went to Queenstown, a city that is as big as Mumbai but which had a population of only 5,000. Imagine that, compared to Mumbai's millions! And of course there were an equal number of tourists.

The first thing that strikes a visitor is the unhurried lifestyle. Everyone is smiling and good-tempered. No big catastrophe seems to occur to upset the leisurely, contented lives of the people who live there. Just like we have our own cars here, people there have their own helicopters.

I remember one occasion when a lady, whose name was also Jacky, flew us around in her chopper. Suddenly she announced she'd take us for a closer look at the mountains but added that she was short of gas so she'd first have the tank filled up. She flew down calmly, glided into the absolutely empty service station, and flew off again in minutes. It was mind-blowing—there's so much space , they can fly choppers as easily as...
