Two months ago, R.K. Raghavan was a slightly apprehensive man. The CBI director had been given the trying task of inquiring into the match-fixing allegations in cricket. The cause of his fears were two-fold. First, the investigating agency was getting into virgin territory, away from its conventional duties of investigating special crimes such as terrorism, hijacking and the like. In addition, the deluge of allegations from the cricket establishment against players, bookies and officialdom itself did not give the CBI a clear starting point for its probe. But much water has since flown under the bridge. Today, Raghavan exudes confidence and is hopeful that the investigation would lead to something decisive. In his first-ever interview after the CBI took charge of the inquiry, Raghavan talks to Murali Krishnan.Excerpts:

What is the status of the case? How is the investigation progressing?
