You could have winked and missed this film. But in the times of round-the-clock TV news, the battle between actress Manisha Koirala and director Shashilal Nair over some 'controversial' scenes in Ek Chhoti si Love Story was bound to become a never-ending soap opera. However, as one waits for the next episode of this messy drama to unspool, one thing is clear: Manisha's inadvertently become the villain of the piece despite knocking every door possible as the aggrieved party. "In this mad scramble, it's Manisha who'll have to pay heavily because of her wrong tactical moves," says media critic Sudheesh Pachauri. Yes, there's no pity for Nair, but neither has Manisha succeeded in generating any sympathy for herself.

Not that the issue she has raised isn't justified. Most in the industry agree that she has been taken for a "terrible" ride by Nair who shot provocative scenes with her double and refused to remove them (as he had promised in an agreement) when she objected.
