The one-day international match played at the Taj Bengal in Calcutta on September 29 was a cliffhanger to beat all cliffhangers. The two teams were evenly matched and fortunes swung wildly through the day, ending in a classic photo finish. The match report:

10 am: Sharad Pawar, Union minister, president of the Mumbai Cricket Association, master strategist and manipulator, against Ranbir Singh Mahendra of the Haryana Cricket Association, a replacement found hastily for former Union minister Arun Jaitley who dropped out of the race for the president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). A replacement chosen by Jagmohan Dalmiya, outgoing president, and the canniest cricket administrator in the world. Before play begins, the wicket seems to be favouring Dalmiya and Mahendra. Dalmiya supporters brag that they have more than 20 out of 30 votes going for them. Rumours float that Pawar has decided to withdraw from the race. The Pawar camp angrily denies this.
