Tracks: Fishplates that linearly connect two rails are the most vulnerable spots. These are easy targets for saboteurs out to cause a derailment. Experts says the nuts and bolts of these plates can be removed in 15 minutes by two people. Poor maintenance of the tracks also leads to derailment in many cases

Coaches: The coaches are not fitted with safety equipment like fire alarms or emergency exits. Vinyl flooring with walls and ceiling in mica are risky during fires.

Bridges: Out of 1.2 lakh railway bridges, over 50,000 were built in the 19th century and are overaged. Of these, over 500 are in the distress list meaning they require immediate special repairs or reconstruction.
