Law Of The Lawless

Law Of The Lawless
Mlappara, a tiny village about 100 km from Kottayam, is a place lawyers would now fear to tread. It’s been declared litigation-free by district judge P.V. Varatharaja Iyer. While the villagers fully cooperated, the pending cases were taken up thanks to the Idukki District Legal Services Authority (IDLSA). Iyer, who’s chairman of the authority, says a function will be organised to declare Mlappara a litigation-free village.

Now, IDLSA has set its sights on another village. Nearly 60 advocates practice in these parts. The villagers’ gain means their loss. "But no cases also means better security and peace," says Iyer.
