Foreign students find Indian univs are a tad violence-prone

  • May 2013: Afghan and Indian students clash at Sharda University in Greater Noida, several injured. A parking dispute led to the fights.
  • Feb 2013: Indian, Afghan students clash at NIT Rourkela; 5 injured. An auto ride was the provocation.
  • Jan 2011: 59 Afghan students flee Ravenshaw University in Cuttack after clashes with Indians. Return after assurances from authorities. But there’s another incident in Oct.
  • Apr 2011: Mizo student is killed in clashes between Indian and African students over a football game at Lovely Univ in Jalandhar. Fights had been reported earlier too at LPU.
  • Oct 2007: Indian student attacked at Lucknow University by Afghans after he allegedly made some lewd remarks at a Tajik girl.


The adverts portray it as a potpourri of cultures and ideas. Students from Latvia, Gambia, Nepal and Mali adorn Sharda...
