Opening doors to la dolce vita in Chanakyapuri, New Delhi, is the brand new Italian Cultural Centre, close to their embassy. Inaugurating it recently, ambassador Benedetto Amari unveiled the plans for the centre, announcing that 200 students have already enrolled in the language classes and they expect the number to double by next year. The library houses 7,000 volumes in all, both in English and Italian. In October, a haute couture fashion fiesta is planned to celebrate 50 years of Italy’s best designs from Valentino, Armani to Versace. A retrospective of the legendary Marcello Mastroianni will also be screened as part of the 33rd International Film Festival in New Delhi. Whetting everyone’s appetites is the new cafe at the Cultural Centre, run by Ritu Dalmia of Diva fame. A divine taste of Italy, this promises to be.
