Thirty years ago, when a Mizo youngster was detained and let off by the police on suspicion of being a Naga rebel, he began hating the police "like hell". Ironically, he was then forced to spend 29 years in the IPS after failing to make it to the IAS or IFS. Sangliana now says: "Police service is perhaps the best equipped to serve society."

It’s a transformation that has seen the making of a legend in Karnataka’s police force. A legend that has three feature films named after him. The first two were ‘true’ stories. Sangliana III will be a futuristic account of how the officer busts a drug gang in Karnataka following Hong Kong’s transfer to China in 1997. Slapping corrupt officers, booking a chief minister’s driver for traffic violation, cycling around in disguise to experience the problems faced by nightbeat constables, seizing record amounts of timber and sandalwood, Sangliana has done it all.
