WHAT happens when God expresses a desire to watch a cricket match? The Indian XI organises one against the Rest of the World XI.

Come November and the cricketing fraternity plans this unique propitiation on the occasion of the 73rd birthday of Bhagwan Sri Satya Sai Baba, the living god of Prashanti Nilayam, Puttaparthi. Not only has he accepted this offering from his cricketer devotees, Sai Baba has also ensured the match will be played in Puttaparthi in a stadium bigger than Calcutta's Eden Gardens.

Taking the lead is the world's top off-spinner of his times, Erapalli Anandrao Srinivasa Prasanna. A professional engineer, he has been entrusted with the task of designing and executing the work on the stadium with an intended capacity of one lakh. 'Little Master' Sunil Manohar Gavaskar will coordinate with the Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) and relevant authorities to organise the match. Alvin Kallicharan from the West Indies and Sri Lanka's Arjuna Ranatunga, both disciples of Baba, are also in the organising committee....
