1. DIVIDE AND COMB
Veerappan’s area of operation covers over 10,000 sq km. The STFs of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka are planning to divide it into sectors for effective search operations. Earlier combing operations were not sector-specific. Now there are plans to prepare detailed maps of each sector with the help of satellite images.

2. ROPE IN COMMANDOS
The Karnataka government will requisition the Centre for at least 1,000 paramilitary (CRPF) men trained in jungle warfare. The STFs of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka already have 1,000 men each. The combined force of 3,000 men would be divided into several teams, each headed by a deputy superintendent of police.

3. COORDINATED ACTION
