Apex industry forum CII is split over Modi's style of governance

There's a storm raging in the Gujarat chapter of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). Following CM Narendra Modi's angry outburst at a recent CII meet in the capital and the recent public criticism by the latter's members like Rahul Bajaj and Jamshyd Godrej on his style of governance, the state's business community is divided over its support to the apex industry forum.

It didn't take long for some of Gujarat's top industrialists, led by the Nirma group's Karsan Patel, to take up cudgels on behalf of the CM. A new group, the Resurgent Group of Gujarat (RGG) was quickly formed. A press statement swearing by the pride of Gujaratis was issued. Besides Patel, Gautam Adani of Adani Group, Indravadan Modi of Cadilla Pharmaceuticals, Chintan Parikh of Ashima and Anil Bakeri of Bakeri Engineers are part of the new group.
