The families of 600 people killed in the 9/11 attacks have filed a multi-billion dollar lawsuit against three Saudi princes, seven Saudi Arabian banks and international charities, accusing them of bank-rolling Osama bin Laden and Al Qaeda. The 259-page suit, filed in the US District Court here, brings to the surface the question of Saudi sponsorship of terror, an issue which was recently the cause of friction between Washington and Saudi Arabia. Speaking at a close-door Pentagon advisory board briefing in July, Laurent Murawiec, a Rand Corporation analyst, contended that "the Saudis are active at every level of the terror chain, from planners to financiers...." The briefing was leaked, forcing the US to distance itself from the remarks.

Members of the Saudi royal family named in the suit include Prince Turki al-Faisal, former chief of Saudi intelligence; Prince Sultan, Saudi defence minister and a brother of King Fahd; and Mohammed al Faisal al Saud. Also named are the al-Rajhi Banking & Investment Corp, and Khalid bin Mahfouz, one time COO of the Bank of Credit and Commerce...
