Why are you opposed to Valsala Kumari?

We think she is an efficient officer. But then she is a woman and no woman is allowed within 5 km of the temple. That is why we are against her overseeing the arrangements at Sabarimala.

Have you approached the government to transfer her?

We have done nothing. But the VHP has been in touch with us. So has the Ayyappa Seva Sangh. They have promised they will stop her.

How would the collector’s presence outside the temple pollute it?

People come here to meditate like true brahmacharis. A woman does not fit in here. The concentration of everyone will be disturbed by a woman. Hence, the tradition of not allowing women.

Are you opposed to government officials supervising operations around the temple?

We are not against it. We actually seek the help of the government. The only thing we want is that they should post a male to the temple and not hurt sentiments.
