This is one yatra Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi can take pride in. The three-day Kanya Kelavani Rathyatra (Education for the Girl Child Yatra) across the state has received an overwhelming response. As many as 75,847 girls were admitted to schools in the first three days of the yatra. The entire Modi cabinet and senior bureaucrats went from village to village exhorting parents to send their children to school. Now that the drive has been successful, the biggest challenge before the government is to ensure that the dropout rate is low. Girl students who are admitted to school often pull out even before they complete their primary education.
