There is never a dull moment with Pakistan, is there? Take the captaincy ruckus coming into the Champions Trophy. It came as a hell of a shock to everyone, myself included, when Younis Khan turned down the captaincy, particularly because I have always thought he is excellent captaincy material. For starters, he is good enough to walk into the side on merit alone, which is always a big help for any captain. Second, he sets a great example to the team with his superbly athletic fielding—close in or in the outfield. Finally, I like the way he always seems full of bounce and energy, which invariably lifts a team.

What matters most is that Younis offers a distinct contrast to Inzamam-ul-Haq's quiet, serene style. Make no mistake, I think Inzamam has been absolutely brilliant for his side. He never panics, never appears fazed and seems quietly in control of himself as well as his team. No wonder the players look up to him but the fact remains that when a good captain retires, you don't want a clone to take his place. When Inzamam does eventually...
