Torrential Reign

Roadside Shows

Apr 19, 2010

Apropos of Torrential Reign (Apr 5), pirated dvds are available on the footpath for less than Rs 50, so why spend precious nights downloading? Okay, I understand the high prices you have to dish out otherwise, but there is also the cost you pay here in the shape of valuable time, which we Indians have still not taken into account.

What is wrong with downloading and seeing your favourite movie within a month or two of its US release? Nearly 65 per cent of the movies produced in Hollywood aren’t released in India. And why shell out 200 bucks in a jam-packed weekend multiplex? And it’s all there...every movie and music from every nook and cranny of the globe. The net is the global superbazaar. Download galore!

I and my friends were downloading using KaZaA, Torrents etc way back in 2004 (when I was in Chennai). I don’t understand the point of doing a cover on the subject in 2010. Or is it that your old fogey editors have been exposed to it now?

The best way to increase download speeds is to get a top-flight windows utilities software like System Utilities 2010. My 256 kbps speed is now 520 kbps because of it. I give this software 5/5.

A very neat summary of the tech-it-or-leave-it products in India. Now if only the model had been “ware”ing the AsuseeePC instead of the HP Mini!
