King Leers

Power Puffed

Feb 01, 2010

Apropos of your cover story King Leers (Jan 18), in India’s feudal set-up, an upper caste man might have avoided the shadow of an untouchable woman but had no qualms about raping her. Some of that mentality has survived. Men like N.D. Tiwari would not mind having women in their bed but would appear as misogynists in public and make life miserable for any woman who would want to fight their injustice.
Raj, Mumbai

Power, one needs no telling, is a great aphrodisiac. Add to it money (which our politicians have plenty of), and it packs an absolutely lethal punch.
M.K. Bajaj, Zirakpur

The sexcapades of men in positions of power are often admired rather than reviled in the peer group and among followers. It’s just feudalism in a new avatar where the men in power mock the upright conduct expected of them.
Sunil Kumar, Delhi

Sonia Gandhi made a mistake by appointing N.D. Tiwari as the governor of Andhra Pradesh. She should instead have handed him the ambassadorship to the country of her origin and our man could sure have given Silvio Berlusconi a run for his girls!
M.A. Raipet, Secunderabad

Could N.D. Tiwari really have been up to it? Methinks it’s a trick of the camera.
R.K. Mahajan, New Shimla

N.D. Tiwari’s 86 for 3 is not a bad score, in so short a game!
