The Lady Fumbles

On the Wrong Trail?

Aug 23, 1999

Outlook has hit the nail on the head with its cover story, The Lady Fumbles (August 9). It confirms that people no more want dynastic rule. It’s pathetic to see a bunch of morons clinging on desperately to Mrs G ’s pallu, who has yet to prove her leadership qualities. Haven’t 46 years of Congress rule been enough? How much more damage does the Congress want to inflict on us? Let’s give the party a decent burial in the coming polls. RIP Indian National Congress.
Capt P.K. Pandey (rtd), Mumbai

Hats off to your cover story. At last we have a magazine that calls a spade a spade. Your assessment of Sonia as a remote, untouchable and unknown quantity is a most conscientious one. Her dubious role in the fall of the BJP government, her choice of advisors, the alliance with the AIADMK and her resignation gimmick have not instilled any confidence in the electorate nor in any way improved her credibility.
S. Doraiswamy, Delhi

Ms Clueless was indeed an apt title for the mess the Sonia-led Congress is in. The cover caricature too was excellent. With the Congress in such a tangle, the BJP should conquer at least 250 seats in the 13th Lok Sabha polls. And Sonia will be forced to take political sanyas.
T.R. Anand, Sarangabad

Outlook’s cover illustration does injustice to Sonia Gandhi. The problems in India are complex and only resolute decisions can help solve them. And Sonia has made a beginning in that direction, as is evident in her attempt to destroy the nexus between crime and politics. She’s good news in comparison to criminals like Advani and Co. India needs her, while Indians need to give her a helping hand. And journalists, once described as the rishis of modern times by former speaker of Parliament Shivraj Patil, can provide the best help in this regard.
