Can India Manage? Y/N

B-School’s A-Listing

Oct 11, 2010

In the selection process and age of institute (Can India Manage?, Sep 27), IIM Calcutta was ranked 8th! I believe it is the oldest IIM—only the Faculty of Management Studies is older among the colleges ranked above it. And you say the higher cat weightage for IIM-C makes the selection process weak. IIM students are admired because they clear the cat well; places giving excess weightage to 10th & 12th scores in all-round assessment are just kidding themselves.

Strange that IIMLucknow finds no space in your top 75.

Outlook forgot to rank the Arundhati Roy Institute of Business Studies, specialising in how to tackle devious WB funding, IMF atrocities etc.

Giving 10th standard scores weightage has led to deserving candidates giving way to average Joes at IIMs. Who has given IIMs the mandate to consider any score other than CAT? My hunch is many were given admission in earlier years and when the RTI application on admission criteria came about, the IIMs were forced to change these so as to hide earlier irregularities. A government probe is the only way out.
